Selecting gifts for when a relationship is new is not a simple task. While you want to make that new person in your life happy, choosing an inappropriate gift could send the wrong message.

The timing of your new relationship gift is almost as important as what you choose to give. While it may seem sweet to give a gift on an anniversary date, this is not always a good idea. If you give a gift for your one-month anniversary, your significant other may come to expect a gift at two months, and so on. Even if you find pleasure in giving gifts, you don’t want to create this expectation so early in your relationship.

Music

This is a great gift for men and women. For a good price, it allows you to give something personal. Choosing music that makes your date happy shows that you are paying attention to his or her interests. You can also consider giving a gift card to an online music website instead. Better yet, make a CD with songs that are meaningful to you (avoid getting to cheesy or serious with this, though, unless you are confident your new flame feels the same).

Flowers

Flowers are an obvious choice that men often times overlook. Women are used to receiving flowers on major holidays such as Valentine’s Day, but they rarely receive them at other times. Surprise her with flowers when she least expects them.

Deciding which flowers to choose can be overwhelming if you aren’t used to buying them. A bouquet consisting of various flower types is a nice choice for a new relationship. If your relationship is still quite new, your date may not have told her colleagues at work about it yet. To avoid possible embarrassment for both you and your date, avoid sending flowers to the office. Instead, deliver the flowers yourself the next time you see her.
