Wedding attire can seem a bit complicated, and not just for the bridal party. As a guest of the wedding, you may feel a little intimidated about making the right outfit choice.

Dressing for a wedding can actually be simple. Choose a dress that shows your excitement for the bride and groom on their special day, while also making you look stylish and feel comfortable all evening. The right accessories and color choices can make your attire wedding appropriate whether floor-length gowns or designer prom dresses are your forte.

The time of day largely determines what type of apparel is appropriate. A daytime wedding may call for a casual dress while your Rina Di Montella dress may be more suited for an elegant evening wedding. The invitation may indicate the formality or informality of the dress expectations. Here are a few guidelines to make you the best-dressed guest:

Evening Wedding

For an evening wedding, dress as you would for an upscale dinner. Men should wear suits and women should wear evening dresses, particularly those hitting knee length or longer. Select fabric in darker colors than you would for a daytime wedding and add some elaborate jewelry. Women would likely choose to carry a small evening bag or clutch rather than a purse.

Do not be afraid to wear the color black. The tradition of women avoiding black dresses at weddings no longer is in place.  Today, many guests are seen wearing black dresses, even the bridesmaids. Consider a gown with a nice cut around the neckline and pair it with some bold colored jewelry.

Cocktail Attire

Dress like you would for a fancy cocktail party. The attire is comparable to an evening wedding, but with the emphasis on classiness. Men should be in their most dashing suits. Women want to look chic rather than wearing sweet or cute dresses. A cocktail party is supposed to fun and filled with socialization so dress to make those things possible.

Black-Tie

This is the most formal attire. Men should wear a tuxedo, and women dress in formal dresses. Choices in jewelry should be more expensive, or at least expensive looking, and makeup should be more dramatic. Women should wear heels if possible, and in some cases, a tasteful hat or veil may make a great accessory.
