Easy Ways to Accessorize For a Formal Affair

You found the perfect dress for that upcoming wedding, fundraiser or prom night. Whether you like to wear Jovani prom dresses or other designer gowns, you are now wondering how to best accessorize and flatter your body.

Necklace
A necklace can be a great accessory if you chose to wear one. Based on the cut of the neckline and how you plan to wear your hair, you may not need to wear one. If your dress is a v-neck, a simple necklace will do but is not necessary. Strapless dresses look great with delicate necklaces that draw attention to exposed shoulders. Earrings
Stud earrings are a standard when it comes to accessorizing. Long earrings look great and will elongate an exposed neck.  Chandelier and dangle earrings draw attention to the neck and shoulders, and are typically paired with a strapless dress. If you are going sans necklace, you must opt for earrings.

Shoes
The length of the dress determines which style of shoes to wear. Thin-heeled shoes look nice paired with most any style of dress no matter the length. If you are wearing a long dress, a heel with a sling-back will work fine because no one will see the detail of the shoe.  Peep-toe shoes with detailing will add pizzazz to a long dress because the front of the shoe will be exposed at the bottom of the dress. For shorter dresses, a heel that has an ankle strap will add length to the leg and visual interest to the ensemble.

Shrugs or Shawls
To further accessorize, add a shrug or a shawl that complements your dress. Not only can they complete your look, a shrug or shawl will provide warmth and comfort. Most styles will fall over the shoulders and drape the arms adding elegance. Be sure to choose a color that flatters your dress and jewelry.

Hang Bag or Clutch
For special occasions, a large handbag or strappy purse needs to be left at home. Clutches or small hand bags without shoulder straps look great alongside those fabulous Sherri Hill cocktail dresses.  These types of bags are small but still hold lipstick, money, a cell phone and your car keys. While the bag is small in size, it will bring a significant amount of classiness that makes it perfect for your upcoming formal event. Opt for a clutch or handbag made of high-quality material in colors such as black, neutral metallic, or one that matches the color of your dress.
